SPEAKING OF CHILDREN

This essay clearly expresses the author's view that it is better to have one child rather than have several children. The author proves her claim by giving many reasons.

One child is just like the part of the parent's body. If there is only one child, the parents can easily train and teach it according to their desire and purpose. They can easily control their only child. But with more than one child, life becomes complicated and the children control the parents. If there are many children, the house becomes dirty with their dolls and toys. They bring new, unwelcome culture in the family. The parents have to take them to the places of entertainment and they don't have chances to do their routine work timely. The parents can't enjoy their holidays freely. Most of their time is to be spent for the children and thus their time is limited. The parents can't provide good education for those children.  With more children, the family is like a noisy crowd.

The parents’ privacy is badly interrupted if there are plural children. When the mother tries to speak to her husband privately after the day’s work, she cannot do so because the children want her attention instead. This makes it difficult for her to understand her husband properly. Perhaps the mother tells the children to play in another room and she sits with her husband to talk for some time, but the children frequently disturb their conversation. As a result, there is a conflict between the desire for a private talk with her husband and the need to give to her children. The author says, with a single child, there are not such complications in the family. The parents can live in their own ways.

The author and her husband have jobs. The author believes it is important for her to talk with her husband about her and his work of the day. This is an important part of a family in the western culture. Privacy is also an important part of western culture. The author does not want her children to listen to things she tells her husband. Instead, she wants to be alone with him, and talk with him while having a small drink of alcohol.
